First Congregational United Church of Christ is a congregational church. While we welcome all views and encourage debate and discourse, our theology tends toward liberal Protestantism and we welcome into our fellowship all that seek Jesus Christ in their lives. We are an Open and Affirming congregation, which means we embrace persons of differing age, gender, marital status, mental and physical abilities, sexual orientation and ethnic, faith, racial and socio-economic backgrounds.
We’ve always been an active church working toward peace and justice. We care for each other, including those who are shut-in, ill, lonely, grieving, or in need. We provide support to local service agencies, such as Family Advocates, the Thrift Shop, and the Platteville Food Pantry.
Members of the First Congregational UCC participate fully in the life of Platteville, its food pantry and various charities and in the life of the university. We are known as a “music church” with a fine choir and a full pipe organ, built in 1923 and reconditioned a few years ago. We have many active ministries detailed elsewhere on this web site and we invite you to participate in our life in any way you find meaningful.
